This Apache Burden Basket was handmade by a member of the San Carlos Tribe. Burden Baskets are used as reminders to visitors to put their personal problems in the burden basket next to the door at entering ones home. As guardians of the home they were a reminder to respect the happiness and privacy of the family’s sacred space. These baskets are still used today during the Apache Sunrise Ceremonies.
